Cortizo Windows & Doors Guide: Everything You Need to Know
Thinking about installing beautiful aluminium Cortizo windows and doors at your property? We have the buying guide you need to get a better understanding of what you can customise and why the designs from this Spanish brand are the ideal choice for your home, new build, commercial building or industrial site.
With sight lines as thin as 20 mm, you can achieve barely-there frames to boost exposure to natural light and get the most out of your views.
How do you know if aluminium windows and doors are of good quality?
At Klosen, we only partner with brands we trust to provide exceptional quality aluminium windows and doors. Factors to look out for include thermal efficiency ratings, security certifications, warranties and reviews. If a company is featured on some high-profile and luxurious new build designs, that’s a testament to their design quality. Cortizo ticks all these boxes.
Thermal efficiency
When purchasing windows for a modern home, thermal and acoustic insulation will be key considerations.
Cortizo windows and doors are thermally broken, meaning the aluminium frames are built with an insulating barrier that separates the external-facing frame from the internal-facing one. This helps prevent heat or cold transfer from inside and outside your property. The result? The windows and doors contribute to better temperature control year-round, and mopping up condensation will be a thing of the past.
According to the latest new build regulations, the average U-value target for all windows in a property is 1.4 W/m2 K. This also applies to doors with over 60% glazing. Cortizo window systems can reach U-values of 1.0W/m2K when triple-glazed.
The glass is available in double and triple glazing, with a maximum of 45 mm thickness.
Security
To ensure your doors and windows are secure, check that they’re certified to PAS24 standards—the minimum legal standard required for new homes in the UK. Cortizo has products that have achieved the WK2/RC2 security grade, meaning they’ve been tested for resistance against common break-in tools, such as screwdrivers.
What’s more, with anti-theft security fittings, durable locking mechanisms, and multiple locking points, homeowners can feel safe and secure.
Warranties
Cortizo installations by Klosen benefit from a 10-year guarantee. There’s also a 25-year guarantee specifically for the powder coating if requested.
What can you customise?
We hope we’ve showcased that Cortizo offers premium-quality designs. The next step is to get to know the variety they offer in their designs. These made-to-measure windows and doors come with many customisable features, from the colour of the frame and style of the handle to the opening mechanism and configuration.
Cortizo aluminium frame finishes and colours
Available finishes and powder coatings include the following:
- Dual colour: A dual colour can add attractive definition to your windows and doors.
- Colour powder coating (RAL, textured RAL): With a choice of RAL colours, you can customise the finished appearance of your frames.
- Wood-effect powder coating: For a more traditional, heritage style property, wood-effect could be a compatible choice.
- Anodized: This offers a more durable coating for your aluminium to last even longer and help it maintain its metallic appearance. It’s ideal for areas that experience more abrasive weather conditions, such as coastal towns.
What colour is best for aluminium windows?
Neutral white, grey and black aluminium windows and doors are some of the most popular options. However, which colour and finish you choose will ultimately depend on the aesthetic you’re trying to achieve. Cortizo offers the standard RAL chart colours, as well as metallic shades for a striking finish.
Opening possibilities and configurations
Cortizo Bi-fold doors
Bi-fold doors let you bring the outside in—perfect for creating a seamless transition between your interior living areas and patio, terrace, balcony or back garden. A maximum of 14 sashes can be opened inward or outward, depending on your preferences, and they can also include accessibility for people with disabilities.
Cor-Vision sliding doors
With Cortizo floor-to-ceiling sliding doors, you can get glass coverage of up to 94%. Configurations include a slider of two to six sashes.
Cortizo windows
Cortizo windows offer a range of opening options, including tilt and turn and casement. Casement windows are the most popular choice in the UK. As a safety mechanism, restrictors can be placed on them to stop children from opening the window too far. You won’t necessarily want every window to open, which is where fixed windows are the ideal solution. Fixed windows also offer more light into the property as they have slimmer frames.
Cortizo handles
With Cortizo, various handles are available to suit a wide range of doors and your personal design and function preferences. You have the option to install an invisible handle, which is invisible from the outside and contributes to a luxurious finish. A multipoint locking system ensures optimum security for your home. Plus, the colour of the handle can be matched with the frame for a sleek finish.
Bespoke projects
At Klosen, we’ve proudly installed many Cortizo windows and doors over the years, including a Grand Designs project. Check out some standout projects below for inspiration and to see for yourself the transformative power they have.
Grand Designs
In 2021, a South Lincolnshire-based couple appeared on the Channel 4 show with a dream vision to build a contemporary home from scratch. They wanted a sleek, contemporary design modelled on a Dutch barn house. After much consideration, the couple selected a Cortizo Millennium Plus Door and Cortizo casement windows, both made with high-quality aluminium that offer good levels of insulation.
Cambridge
The homeowners of this modern residential property in Cambridge feature Cortizo’s Vision Plus aluminium sliding doors and the Cortizo Millennium plus 70 with electronic locking for convenience. The brief to add more natural light to the interior was easily achieved with the large glass panels and super-slim aluminium frames.
Yorkshire
The owners of a new build in Skidby, Yorkshire, wanted a home that perfectly fused the charm of the Yorkshire countryside with contemporary design. Klosen installed the Cortizo Casement Windows, Cortizo Vision Sliding Doors, Cortizo Millennium Plus 70 and the Cortizo 70 HO to create an industrial chic effect.
The Spinney
For this contemporary new build in Lincolnshire, the team installed an ultramodern Cortizo Vision Plus sliding door to harmonise the exterior with the interior. Due to the large surface area of glass, we added a solar coating to prevent UV rays from fading furniture in the property. We hope you agree that the result is quite stunning, and both practicality and aesthetics were considered.
